Dear Parents, Students, and Teachers
Welcome to this academic school year! We are pleased that you are a part of Watauga Elementary School. We anticipate your involvement and cooperation in making this a successful year.
We hope you will become involved by volunteering to help in the many activities we have throughout the year. Volunteering is a great way for you to meet other parents and your donated time and caring will certainly benefit our students and our school.
The Watauga SSO is an active support group of Watauga Elementry.
Meetings and activities will be announced through the school and weekly newsletters.
The SSO is newly formed -- as we closed out the end of the 2007-2008 school year at our May PTO meeting it was the decision of the attending body that a School Support Organization would be formed to replace the PTO.
As a result:
Money, formerly held by the PTO for funding various projects that had been approved by the body, was placed in a school account that will be maintained and disbursed by our bookkeeper. Money raised by the SSO will still be labeled for a specific purpose determined by student need.
The SSO will be asking for more parent involvement. They will be looking for a parent contact for each classroom. The duties of the parent contact will be to help communicate information to the homeroom parents and help to sign up volunteers for various school events.
Periodic programs, school-wide activities, and parent meetings will be held throughout the year.
A volunteer form was sent home with your student. If you would be willing to serve as a parent contact or help in any other way, please complete the form and return it to school as soon as possible.
